A moonlit stroll opens up a whole new world. You’ll see (and hear!) lots of things that you wouldn’t normally notice in the daylight. Some animals only come out at night so this is your only chance of spotting or hearing them.
You might see (and hear):
- Foxes, badgers and deer
- Owls (tawny, short-eared, barn or little owls)
- Hedgehogs and rabbits
- Bats
- Crickets
Stargazing
The big open skies of the North York Moors are especially breathtaking by night. On a clear night you can see many thousands of stars sparkling in the dark sky.
With low light pollution levels and clear horizons the North York Moors are one of the best places in the UK to browse the night sky.
What can you see
Read the Stargazing guide from the North York Moors National Park Authority for top tips on viewing the sky at night, what to look for and when.
